Snow and Seattle are really not the best of combinations. The windy roads. The hills. The lack of snow equipment. And the lack of competent drivers really makes it a less than ideal match. But the weather doesn’t seem to care about that.
The snow really started sticking while we were at church. Church was cut short due to the weather, in hopes that everyone would make it home safely. Unfortunately, we live on a hill and my car got stuck going up that hill on the way home. Four cars went around my car without any hesitation when they saw I saw stuck (that’s Seattle courtesy for you). But two very kind pedestrians saw our plight and came over to help Scott push our car while I steered the car. Once I got going, I didn’t stop until I crested the hill. Poor Scott was running in his church clothes up the hill!
The kids loved the snow. Let me rephrase that. Lily loved it! She was so excited to see the snow. Zeke was not impressed. He doesn’t like extreme temperatures. Snow was not his thing. He didn’t like being all bundled up in snow clothes, nor did he like touching the cold snow (unless it was in the form of a snowball). He did enjoy trying to catch snowflakes in his mouth. We tried to get a picture of him eating the snowflakes, but we didn’t get the camera out quick enough.
I thought Zeke, being the adventurous and daring child that he is, would love sledding. I was so surprised when he emphatically said, “no” when I asked if he wanted to go down the hill on the sled with Lily. I asked if he wanted to go with me. “No.” With Daddy? “No.” That boy did not want to sled! I took him sledding a few times anyway. He really wasn’t that impressed. He was more stunned than anything. He just wanted to play on the play equipment at the park. So I indulged him.
Lily loved to sled! I was so surprised when my cautious child grabbed the sled and headed down the hill (head first) without blinking an eye. She was fearless! I was so proud of her! She explored different places to sled at the park. And she was always good about making sure she was courteous to other sledders and safe.
She really wanted to make a snowman, but we couldn’t get the snow to pack correctly. We ended up making a snow blob that Lily named “Zeke.”
Lily and Scott went tromping around the park together and found this huge snowball!
The snow hung around so long that we were able to go to the park multiple days to play in it. I managed to get to work safely all but one day (I stayed home instead of risking it that day).
It was fun to have the snow. I just wish it didn’t stick to the roads so we could enjoy it more!
