I have been looking forward to turning 30 for years. I know it’s weird. I know a lot of people dread and lament the day. Not me! I’ve been counting down to the day I could honestly say “I’m in my thirties!”
For years, I’ve had customers question my age, and therefore, my credibility as a designer. I learned to say, “I’m approaching 30” whenever they asked my age. The sad thing is, I started saying that when I was 23.
The celebration lasted for three days.
Mom watched the kids the day before my birthday so Scott could take me shopping for clothes. It was so nice to not worry about kids being bored or hungry. Scott was so supportive as we went from store to store to store. I’m notorious for unknowingly going into stores that I don’t belong in (Lane Bryant). This shopping trip was no exception. I went in a store that was obvious geared towards teenagers, followed immediately by a store targeting 50+ year old women. Scott was so good about waiting to laugh at the situation until we left each store. Despite those detours, the shopping trip was a success!
The next day was my birthday. We went up to Bellingham to celebrate with some of our friends. I loved seeing everyone again. My friend, Tiffany, made a delicious chocolate and toffee cake for me! I tried to blow out the three candles on the cake, but I failed. (It was too hard to reach over the bar with Zeke on my lap.)
This is yet another attempt to get a picture of Mike & Tiffany (they were busy trying to dish up cake and ice cream for everyone):
After the party, we put the kids to bed and stayed up way too late playing Settlers of Catan. It was so much fun!
The next day, we celebrated with my family. Everyone got to watch me unwrap my presents. And then we had the traditional family photo on the sofa. This time we were sure to keep Zeke’s hands out of the cake!
We enjoyed the dinner Mom made (one of my favorite dinners, Hawaiian Haystacks). She also made Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. It was so yummy! This time, I managed to blow all the candles out!
I love being 30!
