The Courageous and not so Courageous
Wednesday was shaping up to be a pretty normal day for me. Lily was down for her nap, although I ended up putting her on the sofa because she kept waking up and needed me to comfort her back to sleep (she's teething again). She had been asleep for almost two hours when I noticed the spider. Now if the spider had been on the ground, it wouldn't have been a problem. But this spider was on the ceiling and about 5 feet to the side of where my baby was laying. It was also a HUGE spider. I put some cushions on the ground and moved Lily onto the cushions. I decided my dust pan would be the best object to smoosh the spider with. I stood on the sofa, reached as high as I could with the dust pan and swung. I hit him, but he fell, so I screamed! That of course woke Lily up from her nap. I then needed to comfort Lily while I tried to figure out what to do next with the spider. The ugly thing was holding on to the underside of the sofa arm. I grabbed some paper towels, and set Lily out of harm's way. (Let's face it, in my mind a big ugly spider can cause harm.) I wadded the paper towel up so I wouldn't touch the spider with my own hand and smooshed. I smooshed and smooshed that paper towel down. When I went to unwad the paper towel, the spider was nowhere to be found.
Now is the time that I panicked. I couldn't stand the thought of that spider crawling on Lily. I was terrified of finding the ugly thing, though. I called Scott at work, but he didn't give me much sympathy. I finally decided to see if my neighbor was home. Lucky for me, she was. My original plan was for her to hold Lily and keep Lily away while I hunted for the spider. She volunteered to hunt for the spider. Apparently, she isn't afraid of spiders. After a few minutes of searching, she found him in Lily's toy basket. Yuck!
She took the toy basket outside and set him free, far from my front door. It was rather humorous when she yelled, "Wow! He's huge!" (She believes it's bad luck to kill spiders. I think it's fair game if they come inside my house.)
So Jenn is the courageous one, and I am the not so courageous.

I actually think you were brave since when I actually get the courage to get a spider I use something with a longer handle, like a broom! I never go for the hand grab either, unless I'm sure it's dead.
I would've reacted the same way as you no matter how big the spider was. I once hunted a spider that was no bigger than the end of a pencil eraser.....but it was one of those jumping spiders.....creepy!
I HATE SPIDERS!!!!
eew yuck! I feel like there is a spider crawling on me now. I hate spiders!
You bunch of wimps. How could you be afraid of . . . AAAAuggh!! Sorry I thought I saw a Spider. Whew!
I hate spiders! We live in a basement apartment and they are everywhere...including bed almost every night! Casey usually plays the hero and kills them for me, but after I woke him up a few times in the middle of the night to kill spiders he bought me a can of spray and said it was time I conquered my fears. It hasn't worked. :)
