The summer passed us by before we had a chance to go camping. There were also wildfires affecting half of the state. That didn’t leave us with a lot of options. But we heard of a campground near by (25 minutes from our house). It isn’t really the wilderness camping experience we were hoping for, we were only 5 minutes from a grocery store, but it was okay.
Scott (with the help/hinderance of two kids) toted all of our camping gear to the site and then set up camp. He had to take all the gear in a wheelbarrow across a suspension bridge and then up the hill to our campsite. What a workout!
We learned that neither Scott or I know how to cook with briquettes, which resulted in dinner being very, very delayed. And I relearned how to build a fire. The kids preferred uncooked smores. (How is that tasty?)
The kids had fun exploring the wooded area and going geocaching with us. Lily even found a geocache!
Scott thought it would be fun to walk across the river. Zeke was the only one brave enough to go along. They only made it 1/4 of the way before they turned back. The water was too cold, and the rocks on the river bottom were too slimy.
It was a nice weekend.
