Primary Program

A few weeks ago, our ward had their annual Primary Program (instead of sermons, the children share what they have learned in their Sunday School classes this past year). It can be a little intimidating for the children to speak in front of 200-300 people. My shy little Lily was no exception. This was her first time participating in the program. We worried about how she would do. If she would sing and if she would say her part. She sings all the time at home, and knows the words to all the songs. She also practiced her part with me every night.

The day of the program, Lily wanted to wear one of my necklaces to church. I thought that was a great idea! I told her to rub the stone on the necklace whenever she was getting nervous. I also told her that I wanted to sing every song loud enough that I could hear her from my seat in the congregation.

I saw her rub the necklace during the first song. After that, she would look over at me to make sure I saw her singing every word “loudly.” (She wasn’t the child shouting the words to the songs. That would be a different Sunbeam. She was just loud enough for me to hear.)

When it was her turn to say her part, you never would guess that she had her part memorized. But her teacher whispered the part in her ear and she said it loud enough into the microphone that everyone could hear: I am a child of God. I lived in heaven before I was born.

We were so proud (and relieved)! Scott told Lily that she did such a great job that we were going to take her to Jamba Juice the next day to celebrate.

Aww! So sweet!

I used to hate having to do that! I STILL strongly dislike giving talks in Sacrament Meeting.

I'm glad Lily did so well! My kids are usually the ones who just freeze and stare off into space during the program. Oh well. :)
