Even though Scott is completely slammed with homework, I still wanted to celebrate the holiday. Scott managed to break away from his homework a few times to celebrate with us. First item of business, the local parade (Scott hates parades, so this shows how much he loves us. Plus it was drizzling.)
The parade began with veterans carrying the flags and one veteran playing the snare drum. (I don’t know why, but it totally made me smile to see this veteran playing the snare drum.)
Then the parade became a little more playful. There were plenty of marching bands, cheerleaders, and dance teams. And then there were these men (pictures are from the Bellingham Herald):
They were all together. A bunch of grown men being absolutely silly: driving go carts and almost crashing into each other, playing a gong and other musical instruments, and dancing to the Macarena with a machete. (Can’t you just see Uncle Larry being a part of this?)
We also went to the local cemetery over the weekend. They had it decorated for the Memorial Day Ceremony with a row of American flags. It was very well done. I forgot to bring my camera, so we don’t have any pictures.
