Boxes, Boxes, and more Boxes

We've started packing up our stuff to prepare for our move. Some would think we're starting a little too early. It seems a little early to me too, but I know it's necessary. I have to work around Lily's schedule, and everything else I'm supposed to be doing. Last night, Lily helped me box up three boxes of books. (Lily helped rearrange the piles of books.) I have more books to pack up, but I have to wait for Scott to bring more boxes home. (Yes, I'm a book hoarder. I kept all of the books from my major. I can't bear to part with them. I may need to reference them someday . . . and I do occassionally reference the books.)

I think you're very smart to start early. There are so many things that you don't use day to day that can be packed in advance. I hate it when people ask the Elder's Quarum to help and then people show up to help "move" and the people haven't even started packing or even gotten boxes. People need to learn that "move" means pick up a box and put it in the truck, not, find you boxes and fill them. I also know how you feel about books. That was the hardest thing for us to part with when we moved and we had to get rid of half of them. Sad day.

Since Edon and I are pros at moving packing usually doesnt start until two days before we need to move. Please be advised so wives freaks out, they call it procrastination, I call it smart. However, in 2 of our last 4 moves everything had to fit into a 4door sedan. Good luck in the move. I do agree when you have help, they are there to move not pack.

Moving is such a chore... it's never too early. No matter how much you get done, when moving day arrives you feel like you should have started even earlier!

I remember the many hours we sorted things in three piles - getting rid of, keeping in storage and taking with us. It took forever and we had to re-do it various times because the "taking with us" pile was toooo big.

Packing was fortunately no problem. We had movers (paid by Dennis employer) and we were actually not allowed to pack anything ourselves due to liability issues. SOOO RELAXING. They ended up packing and emptying our apartment within 4 hours (with 3 people) and only the scratch pole was damaged when things arrived at our new place.

Good luck with your preparations.
